Aftermath

The old Belvin Street Hospital burned down Monday night. Two people have been arrested in connection with the fire. The building has been abandoned for years and I posted a shot of it a while back. Sgt. Wade Parham of the San Marcos Police Department took these photos while it was burning. The shot below is a view of the back of the building a couple days later.

Boy, it looked like a very hot fire (from the Sgts' pictures). Shame this building with allot of character will be torn down now.

Hopefully someone will salvage the bricks and turn them into something that brings out the character.

  2. Robert says:

What a shame. Abandoned buildings have their own character and a life of their own. This lighting is wonderful detailing so much of this lovely old building. I like the face in the clouds looking down on the building.

  3. What a sad day, I'm sure. I like old, historic buildings with a rich history. What a fabulous shot.

  4. Angry Buddha says:

Very cool shot and excellent processing on this.

your post processing on this produces an almost other worldly glow–not over done, just right in my opinion. i love that effect, and see it a lot in you work. very nice.

  6. Roberta says:

Beautiful image. It's too bad this old building was lost. The ones that replace them lack the character.

  7. Mark says:

Beautiful job on processing. It creates a very dynamic shot that is very interesting to explore.

  8. you achieved a beautiful lighting here – an effect that reminds me of an adventure game scene!

  9. Jenn says:

A devastating loss to be sure. But what was captured here is striking–great lighting, post processing, etc. It evokes the true essence of a magnificent building.

  10. moodaholic says:

You have captured the tradegy beautifully, so to speak.

Wow, that’s too bad. I was a student in San Marcos over a decade ago and went in there. Very creepy. I think I ran out as fast as I could. If old pics are needed of the place, I may have some. Love your work, thank you.
