From the Ground

From the GroundI went to Thompson’s Island tonight to do a little light painting but I forgot my Zippo so no fire in this picture. I did however find a fountain of water gushing out of the ground, which then formed a little waterfall. I’m happy with the final image although I think I was wanting something a little different.

The softness of the light and water is perfect. Would you mid sharing exposure time and aperture for this picture?

I agree with zac. It does look surreal. Another creative, quality photo. Your pictures have given me a number of ideas to try when I get a chance to do some night photography.

I think this is your best painting with light photo yet – well composed, the water is beautiful and the glow in the things around it is just right, with the proper amount of drop off at the edges.

Like Mark I’m highly interested in some “technical data”, too. Could you please give away the secret? ;-)

Sorry, I forgot to post the exposure information. 30 Seconds, f/4.5, ISO 100. If you’re looking for the technique, please read the comments here.

very nice andy. I half expect to find a pixie hiding somewhere in there but I can’t find her.

  12. Kevin says:

Damn you Andy, another perfect one. Great shot man, I wish there were scenes like this around where I live. I don’t think there is a waterfall within 40 miles of me.

Andy, I’ve mentioned before that I love long exposure evening stuff and have decided to do a panel on ‘The Blue Hour’ for my Licentiateship. Your images are real inspirations.

  22. DaveNYC says:

There is a very painterly quality about this. Beautiful.

  23. James says:

Did you make some kind of pact with the devil? Amazing! You’re going to make flashlights and zippo lighters a much-needed part of any photographer’s toolkit. And what part of Utopia do you live in that has all the landscape features in your photos! Great stuff!

  24. jasonspix says:

Fantastic! Those leaves are cool looking, not to mention the water.
