Jaws

I believe this is some type of Agave plant. These two leaves came together to form what looks to me like jaws with razor sharp teeth.

  1. I love your composition here. You’ve also kept a nice tonal range. the only thing that is bugging me is the color/BW combination. I think it’s extremely hard to pull off. the green at the bottom just pulls my eye away from the subject. Not sure if you wanted criticism, my apologies if not.

I actually wasn’t trying for a color/bw combination but I see what you mean about the green. Somehow it escaped my attention before I posted it (too many distractions while working on it). In any case, I toned it down a bit. Thanks for the heads-up.

  3. KK says:

very good perspective, amazing eye on this plant, good job :)

  4. WOW…this really is a great one…love the tones….The best part of this one is the spiders web that is very slightly visible and gives you a idea of what this might be…great eye Andy…

  5. Earl says:

Is that a spider web I see in the middle? Spooky shot – right out of the SciFi Channel.

What a superb shot… Open mouth on darkness.

  9. Claudia says:

Amazing shot! Gives a mixture of fear and curiousity. Fear of the sharp jaws and curious to find out whats inside the dark hole.

  10. Brandon says:

Ahhhhh the plant is alive, alive!!! LOL….great shot

  11. dylan neild says:

This is very cool! Staring into the mouth like it’s alive and about to eat you. The spiders web inside the mouth is awesome too – adds so much subtle detail. Very good shot.

  12. pierre says:

    Nice selective focus here
    well done

  13. tuan says:

very cool. looks like a crocodiles mouth.

  14. Ed says:

I was going to say the exact same thing as tuan. Nice focus.

  15. deceptive says:

Yep, looks like a crocodiles mouth – nicely done.

  16. Brian says:

I would never guess that this was actually a plant – my first instinct was that this was definitely looking down the mouth of some threatening animal! Very well executed, and with a nice abstract quality.

  17. Boyd Greene says:

I love how you are able to depict beauty so simply.
